Movie Review: Wanted
by Kellye Crittenden

Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Suspense, Thriller, Action, Adventure- expect to have all six of these genres satisfied with the June 27th premiere of the movie Wanted.  The perfect film to satiate any man’s craving of secret societies, luxury vehicles, weaponry, and well of course Angelina Jolie.  Having opened almost two and a half weeks ago, Wanted has netted over $112 million, luring in a rated-R crowd whose expectation may have been superseded by the winding plot and shifting motives of the characters.

James McAvoy, known in the movie as Wesley becomes our “hero” as he transforms from an apathetic-nemo sales clerk to a coveted assassin in The Fraternity.

The Fraternity consists of Morgan Freeman as Sloan the Fraternity’s leader; Angelina Jolie, as Fox the allusive and sometimes-scantily-dressed initiator; musician Common as the gunsmith and other lesser known actors. The Fraternity has for 1,000 years made its vocation to be the killing of men and woman who fate determines, not themselves, to be a future abruption in earth’s homeostasis. They unfortunately receive their orders from fate through encodings weaved on textiles. With that said, be willing to suspend your disbelief for the extent of the movie, all 108 minutes, as there are scenes that make you go “hmmm”, but that is where the Fantasy and Sci-Fi aspects come in.

Don’t expect anything less than fantastic visuals from director Timur Bekmambetov, as he bases this movie off of Mark Millar’s “explosive graphic” novel series.

Movie Review: Hancock
by Serena Green

With an already skeptical attitude I entered the movie theater and sat fairly towards the front. As a huge Will Smith fan and a Philadelphia native I almost feel obligated to support his movies. Unfortunately, I Am Legend left a bad taste in my mouth, thus, causing my skepticism for this movie. Sure enough, while the end credits were rolling, I sat with a broken face. A dropped jaw and cropped left eyebrow. "Thats it?"

I didn't blame Smith for these unanswered questions, after all, he had amnesia the entire movie. The story was originally written by Vincent Ngo in 1996 and remained in development in Hollywood for some time. Apparently, there were no editors around in the last 12 years. The best explanation of his superhuman powers was that he was created 3,000 years ago paired with Charlize Theron. There were others of their kind but they all died?

Superman was from another planet, but had kryptonite...Spiderman was bitten by a spider, thus able to spin webs...Batman is human, however, he is trained in all types of Martial Arts. Even the X-Men have an entire school dedicated to their powers and they know who they are, mutants.

Hancock, like I Am Legend, fails to build character and plot. It puts the movie-goer in the middle of a story that we can't even research because it's fiction. I think Mr. Smith should start reading these scripts more carefully. I know that he may be in regret for turning down the part of Neo in The Matrix, but it is time to let it go and move forward. On to bigger, better and funnier character plots.
