New to DVD: Definitely Maybe
by Carly Kursman

Definitely Maybe depicts the story of a single father and his eleven-year-old daughter who is curious about love and sex. Ryan Reynolds, who plays Will Hayes, the main character in the movie, tells his daughter a bedtime story about his failures and achievements with love and relationships. It is not until the end of the story and the movie until viewers find out who Hayes loves and who his daughter’s mother is.

Definitely Maybe is a romantic comedy that shows the way a man struggles to show his true feelings towards the women he loves. In the movie, we see his three main romances and how and why they ended and changed him.

The movie is a great movie to watch on a rainy day or after a break up for your own. It proves that loves come and go and that though it hurts greatly, you can move on and fight the one who is perfect for your life. The movie shows you that plans and rules do not make relationships work. You have to play the game of love without rules and use your feelings to guide the way.

William Hayes is a charming and handsome man in his thirties who struggles with not only love but the way he feels about his job. He realizes not to be stuck in a situation that does not satisfy you. That goes for both love and life. The movie suggests that you need to take risks in order to be successful in love and successful in love. Hayes takes chances in both of these areas during the duration of the movie.

You have an idea how about how the movie will end, but it never gets boring. You will cry, laugh, scream and understand. And you will also grow as a person who is going through heartbreak and love. This is an optimistic movie that allows you to feel happy again knowing that your first love doesn’t usually turn up to be your last love. It also doesn’t turn up to be the person that you want to spend your whole life with. You need to be with someone who completes you and wants to grow with you. Someone that will love you, comfort you and be your friend.

Definitely Maybe is definitely a movie that mends the heart and keeps you smiling. It definitely shows you that with time you will discover the person you want to be with, not maybe, but definitely forever.

Movie Review: The Dark Knight
by Christopher Snyder

Heath Ledger delivered one of the best villain performances ever in his role as the Joker, in The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins. Christian Bale again portrays the role of Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman, battling the Joker throughout the streets of Gotham City, in what is sure to be one of the best films of 2008.

Christopher Nolan again knocks one out of the park with this film. Nolan incorporates an insane amount of action, dazzling spectacles, devilish comedy, throughout the entire film, with an all-star cast that seems like it was meant to play the parts. Maggie Gyllenhaal is more suited than Katie Holmes (Batman Begins) to play the part of Rachel Dawes, with a fiery attitude that blows Holmes performance out of the water. And Aaron Eckhart as district attorney Harvey Dent is role suited for his acting talents, but in this acting ensemble Ledger is the one who takes the cake. He simply took the role as Joker and brought it to a whole new level. You believe he is mad. You believe he is psychotic. You believe he is the Joker. There’s no phony plastic mask, but rather make-up caked on and running from his face from the sweat. In what is his last completed role, Ledger more than received an Oscar nomination, he should win it.

In The Dark Knight, Bruce Wayne is done with being the good guy, the savior to Gotham City. He feels someone with a face should take control and that person is Harvey Dent. But there is no sense in reviling the story; this is something you have to see. Take it from me, you have to see it. Every actor brings their A game to this movie. And no one will leave their seats disappointed from any of the performances. From Ledger’s performance as Joker, which is miles from Jack Nicholson's broadly funny take on the role in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman, to Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, the scientist who designs all of Batman’s toys (and they are some nice toys). Christopher Nolan and the cast don’t disappoint in a time where sequels don’t always live up to the hype, but in this case it does.
